Sibling love!

The siblings have come and gone, and as they say in Spain, "nos hemos pasado pipa," meaning, we had an awesome time.

Barring the fact that my sister got pickpocketed the second she got on the metro home from the airport...and consequentely a few stops at the police station and US Consulate...everything else went over quite well. The hermanos both flew in Thursday, Friday we walked down to Sol and the Plaza Mayor. There, we unsuccessfully tried to find the 0 Kilometer mark in Sol, and took a picture of a sewage drain instead (it said Regulacion de Trafico!! Educated guess.) This random Spanish lady looks at us and asks, "they don't have these in China?" Oh man, I was pissed. If I had a dime for every time I've been accosted for being Asian in Madrid - Oh, you're Chinese? No? Oh excuse me, you're Japanese. No? Philipino, then - I would be a millionaire.

Saturday, Matt flew in and we went straight to Segovia - my second time there, but with much much better weather and more time to explore. I love that place. It's beautiful, historical, and perfect for a day trip. Some funny memories: Matt trying to climb the aquaduct, a random street artist making fun of us for being Asian (make your eyes small like those people over there!), my brother wanting to take every picture for his E-harmony profile... ah, good times were had by all. Saturday night was low-key since my sister was feeling under the weather, so I ordered Telepizza and we watched "Friends." Formaggio pizza for life!
It took us 20 tries to get the flag just right

Sunday we met up with Antonio and he gave us a quick guided tour of the Reina Sofia...GORGEOUS museum, and I finally got to see "Guernica" by Picasso and "The Great Masturbator" by Dali. We got lunch shortly thereafter, then they went home and rested while Antonio and I watched the tail end of the Formula 1 race. Of course the Spaniard won, in Barcelona no less. It's been a week of victories for the Spaniards: first the Formula 1, then the smaller motorbike races, then Nadal defeating Federer.

I'm glad the family got to bear witness to a little snippet of my life here. Now I can't hide anything from you guys...bwahahaha...

And that was my last weekend in Spain. For awhile. Thanks, sibs, for being thoughtful and braving the heat/long flights to come see me! It was much appreciated!

Wohooo!! An awesome time was had by all. Though I lost a lot of stuff, I gained invaluable lessons about the love, endurance and beauty of family.

Muchos gracias, mi brava y aventurera hermana... and kudos on being a fluently sassy spanish-speaking mama! Well done!
